Disputing a charge without getting your account nuked

Four hours is genuinely impressive in the worst way. Most hosts at least wait for the bank to contact them.

This is the part that saves you with reasonable providers. Shows you tried. With RackNerd it sounds like they have an auto-suspend trigger on any chargeback flag.

Has anyone actually had luck getting a RackNerd account *reinstated* after the fact, or is it permanent ban territory once you dispute

RackNerd nuked you in four hours? That's hostile even by low-end standards

Yeah, and I had prepaid through September too. Gone. No prorate, no archive, no "contact us to resolve." Just 403 on control panel and termination email citing TOS section about chargebacks.

The four-hour thing still surprises me. Either they auto-suspend on dispute notification or someone was watching alerts manually. Either way, don't expect a grace period.

Contabo was different story. Same situation, double charge, but they actually replied to ticket within six hours and offered credit or refund. I took refund, no dispute needed. Night and day.

Has anyone had luck getting RackNerd to reverse suspension after the fact? Or is that account just permanently blacklisted?

RackNerd's 4-hour kill switch is basically industry floor now, not exception

I got lucky with KnownHost once, double charge, ticket answered in 6 hours, refund same day, never needed dispute

But that was 2022, their support was actually staffed then

These days I treat every low-end host as pre-nuked, data lives in three places before I even type the credit card number

Account suspended within four hours

Four hours is basically automated. No human reviewed that ticket history, just a webhook firing on "chargeback" status from the payment processor.

Seen the same pattern with OVHcloud and Hostinger. The "suspension on dispute" flow is usually hardcoded, not a decision. That's why the pre-dispute checklist is the only real defense.

The providers that handle it better — Contabo, Vultr — tend to have actual billing teams instead of just billing *events*.

Anyone had luck getting unsuspended after explaining the timeline? Or is that account just permanently radioactive once flagged

Four hours is basically automated. Did RackNerd ever un-suspend after the bank finished, or was that permanent? Some hosts keep a blacklist even if the dispute resolves in their favor.

I went the other direction with Hetzner once. Ticket got a human in six hours, refund posted next day. Never had to touch the dispute button. Luck of the draw I guess

Has anyone tried the reverse order with RackNerd since? Dispute first, treat account as already lost, use the chargeback window to migrate instead of begging for access

Wonder if that changes the survival rate or if they flag the card across all zones

92 days and still no word from RackNerd on this

Did anyone ever get unsuspended or was it just migrate and move on

Still paying for two hosts because of that GreenCloudVPS mess, never doing dispute-first again

— RackNerd really sprinted to that terminate button, didn't they?

I keep a standing rsync to a HostHatch box for exactly this reason. Never needed it yet, but the peace of mind is worth the $7.

Has anyone tried the reverse? Disputing *after* you've already migrated everything out. Does the provider still bother with retaliation when there's nothing left to hold hostage?

120 days but still relevant.

— RackNerd's 4-hour nuke is basically automated, no human reviewed it. Same happened to a colleague at Hetzner years back. Ticket-first-then-dispute pipeline is solid but some providers treat *any* dispute as ToS violation by default. Worth checking if your contract has a "mandatory arbitration" clause buried in it. Some of us skip that with small claims instead. Different risk profile.

— that line specifically.

Had a double charge from Hetzner, ticket sat for a week. Included the ticket ID in the dispute description and they actually paused instead of suspending. Got the refund, account still alive. Might have been luck, might have been the ticket reference making it look less like a blind chargeback.

Either way I had already rsynced everything to InterServer just in case.
