Mirrors. Two vdevs of 2-wide mirror, so 4 drives total. 180MB/s was aggregate pool scrub, not single drive. Single topped around 150MB/s on the outer tracks, dropped to 90MB/s inner. The 180MB/s was ZFS reporting combined.
And yes, on 4 drives mirror is the only sane choice. Anyone doing RAIDZ2 on 4 drives deserves their 18-hour rebuilds.
I am still running 8x3TB Toshiba DT01ACA300 in RAIDZ2. Rebuild takes 26 hours. Not production, just media and ISO archive. Would cost me 800 EUR to replace with SSDs for no user-facing benefit. The platters spin, the Plex works, my wallet stays closed.

Your workload is sequential streaming. Disk is fine. Danfra's workload is random I/O, VMs, databases, the things that actually hurt when a head seeks. Different `case` statement entirely.

My rack has 4U of spinning rust still. 12x8TB in a SuperMicro 846. Noise is the real reason I want to go all-flash, not speed. That thing lives in my basement and I can hear it through the floor. Wife acceptance factor approaching zero.

Same. I have a Fractal Define R7 in the closet with 8 spindles. The vibration travels through the building frame. I put it on sorbothane pads, helped maybe 20%. At parties people ask what the hum is. "Server," I say. They do not ask me to host for them at parties anymore.

But seriously: vibration is a real failure mode. I have seen rack rails loosen from 15K RPM harmonic over years. Not the drive, the rail. The rail fails, the drive walks, the cable strains. Physical layer problems do not care about your NVMe throughput.

In Brazil the price delta is absurd. A 4TB SATA SSD is 1200 BRL, a 4TB NAS drive is 400 BRL. Three times. For my pfsense box and a Nextcloud for family, spinning disk is the only math that works. You Europeans forget that your prices are not global.
Singapore too. Enterprise NVMe is cheap here because of datacenter competition, but home user pays import markup. My Hetzner box in Falkenstein is cheaper than local colo. The disk is in Germany, the latency is to me, the wallet is happy.
I bought Samsung 870 EVO 4TB for 280 EUR each last November. Same price as IronWolf Pro 4TB at the time. No-brainer. The EVO is not enterprise but for my homelab who cares, 5 year warranty, no noise.
QLC. You just bought QLC and you think you won. 600 TBW on the 4TB model. My WD Reds were rated for 180TB/year workload, you will burn through that write endurance in three years of normal ZFS use. Enjoy your no-noise tombstone.
