870 EVO is TLC, not QLC. 870 QVO is the QLC one. Check your product stack before the doom speech.
My own array is Samsung PM9A3 and some Intel D3-S4510 leftovers. The PM9A3 is TLC, 1 DWPD, rated for actual server use. The Intels are my "I got them cheap from a datacenter refresh" special. Both outlive any use case I have.
TLC then. Still not MLC. Still degrading. The point stands: you are trading one failure mode for another and calling it victory. I will be here when the wear leveling fails.
Following this thread. Currently on 6x10TB Exos in RAIDZ2, considering all-flash for noise reasons. The endurance FUD is tiring. Modern datacenter SSDs are rated for more writes than most homelabs do in a decade.
This. My Intel S3500 480GB from 2014 still reports 97% health. Homelab write amplification is nothing. The people screaming about endurance are the same ones who ran their SSDs without power for a year and blamed voltage retention.

Sorry if this was covered, but what does "cold data" mean exactly? Is it just old files you don't access much? And why USB instead of cloud?
