Cross-shipping nightmares: they received my RMA, I received an empty box

I do the unboxing video now too
Full continuous shot
No cuts

Saved me with InterServer https://www.interserver.net last March
They tried to claim I swapped the RAM
Video showed their seal intact

Takes five minutes
Worth every second

— yes, but also get the courier's pickup receipt with weight logged. My empty-box RMA from a different vendor weighed 0.4kg on return versus 2.1kg outbound. That gap is evidence.

Contabo never explained the mismatch. They just expedited a real replacement once I cited the weight discrepancy. Coincidence probably.

Anyone tried requesting pre-paid RMA labels with declared weight? Curious if vendors push back

22 days, guess everyone got their RMAs sorted or gave up

This is the part that still gets me, you can have perfect uptime metrics and a support org that's just duct tape and hope

I never did get that apology from OVHcloud either, just a closed ticket and a survey link

Exactly — their status page is theatre. I had a ticket open for 11 days before a human looked at it, meanwhile everything green across the board

Has anyone here actually gotten proactive communication from Contabo on RMAs, or is it always radio silence until you escalate?

This is exactly it — I had something similar with InterServer where the tracking showed "delivered to dock" for two weeks before anyone admitted they didn't know where it was

The auto-reply fatigue is real, you end up filtering their whole domain just to function

Solid advice but the real kicker is even with photos you're at their mercy for weeks. I had timestamps, geotags, the works. Contabo's system just digests evidence and auto-replies "escalated."

Did anyone here actually get a proactive update without chasing? Or is silence the standard across all of them — OVHcloud, InterServer, the lot

Is exactly it

Contabo's RMA desk might as well be a black hole with auto-replies

Did anyone here actually get cross-shipping to work smoothly on a first try or is it always a coin flip

120 days but this still makes me angry

Whole other level of truth right there

Did anyone ever hear if Contabo actually fixed their RMA pipeline or is it still a black hole

#19

Did this ever get resolved or did Contabo just wear you down

I stopped cross-shipping after a InterServer "refurb" arrived with bent pins
Now I eat the downtime and photograph the serial before any handoff

144 days quiet on this thread, guess everyone either got burned or found better hosts

Oh this thread is ancient but I just had another empty box moment, this time from Hetzner

Sent a dead NVMe back, got a box with a 2.5" SATA adapter and a sticky note saying "compatible"

At least there was something in the box this time I guess

Doing this now, every single time
