I am American and I agree. The psychology is "sunk cost as feature." Feels like ownership. It is not.

I am in Singapore, I see Contabo and Vultr both have DC here. Contabo Singapore is new, maybe 2023? I would not trust a lifetime on a new region. Burn in period exists for a reason.
2023 launch, yes. Munich and Nuremberg are the proven ones. St. Louis has had network issues. Singapore too early to call.
I administrate servers for my association since 2018. We use OVHcloud in Gravelines, not lifetime, just regular VPS. The price is stable but the support is... we do not use support. We use redundancy. Two providers, always.
This is the real answer. Lifetime or not, single provider is the actual mistake.
What does everyone think about Hetzner? Not lifetime but their auction servers feel like a cheat code. I have had one for four years, no drama.
Nuremberg and Falkenstein only. Finland exists but new. Auction is previous gen hardware, no SLA, but price is real. Not comparable to "lifetime" psychology though. You know what you get.
Chur that was SBG2 yeah? I remember that thread. 3.6 million websites down. OVHcloud gave like... a month credit?
