Best budget hosts that don't feel cheap?

Thanks for the correction DudeKlx. ASN 24940 vs RackNerd's, confirmed different. Same building in some locations, different network entirely.

Marchstone3 the €8 comparison: OVHcloud Starter VPS is €4.19 ex VAT actually, 1 vCore 2GB. Hetzner CPX11 is €4.51, 2 vCore 2GB. So Hetzner slightly more RAM and core, OVHcloud cheaper base. Both hit different bottlenecks under load.

Here in São Paulo the prices are crazy for anything local. I pay R$45 for a 1GB VPS that would be €3 in Europe. Self-hosting on fiber is my escape plan, just need to convince the ISP to give me a fixed IP without the "business" tax.

Import tax on used server to Brazil is 60% plus ICMS. Your cheap becomes my expensive fast.

Same problem in Madrid. The colo options are thin outside the big north European cities. I looked at renting rack space in Barcelona, €80/U with power. For one server, no. For ten, maybe. But then I am not "budget" anymore, I am small business with an accountant.

Mis gatos cost less than a rack unit and provide more warmth.

Following this thread because I'm about to move a WordPress site off Bluehost shared. Their "unlimited" plan started throttling at 10GB disk usage, which they define as "excessive" in paragraph 14 of some doc nobody reads.

Budget hosts that don't feel cheap: so far Hetzner looks like the answer if you can manage your own stack. If you need cPanel, you're already in the wrong thread.

Bluehost throttling is legendary. I moved a client to Cloudways DO droplet, same effective price, 10x the actual resources. But Cloudways is middleman pricing, not true budget.

This. The "doesn't feel cheap" part of the title means you give up hand-holding. Contabo, Hetzner, OVHcloud all assume you can fix your own PHP version.

Or you use RunCloud/CyberPanel and get 80% of cPanel for 10% of the price. I manage twelve WordPress sites on a €9 Hetzner CPX21 with RunCloud, total stack cost under €11. Not quite "budget" thread territory but not expensive either.

The panel clutter OVHcloud has is real though. Their new manager is better but still slower than Hetzner's robot.

RunCloud is fine until you need to debug why nginx randomly 502s at 2am. Then you miss cPanel's "fix everything" button that usually breaks more but at least feels like action.

I'm in this thread because I'm curious about RackNerd. Their deals look too good, which means they are. But how bad, actually? Anyone with six months continuous use?

#28

Six months lol... try six weeks before I bailed... network nice, cpu schedule trash, support tickets answered by what felt like chatgpt with a hangover...

But their black friday deals... yikes... I know people who buy three years upfront. Three years! Might as well burn the money for warmth in winter.

Three years upfront on any budget host is just a donation with extra steps. I've seen enough hosts disappear or "rebrand" to know that annual is my max, and only if I can afford to lose it.

Stealing this for my next support review.
