Ronwit your KnownHost deal is a fossil from another era. ¥300/year for 128MB isn't "quality and cheap coexisting," it's a pricing mistake they forgot to fix. I had a similar relic from HostGator once, grandfathered for years until they finally killed it.
For everyone else hunting now: that tier is gone. Contabo's smallest current VPS is 4GB, €4.50 with setup fee. You can't get "smol enough" on new contracts anymore, the floor rose.

But yes for new hunter the floor is higher. I feel this. My friend tried last month, cheapest she found was €5 with crazy setup fee. Different world from 2019

When Hetzner had that routing hiccup last year — https://status.hetzner.com — failover took ninety seconds because it was actually automated.
Six years on 128MB is impressive. But "smol enough" means single point of failure with no recovery path. Config management first, then optimize cost.

This. This is why I stay on my dedi resale from a friend. €8, 8gb, I dont ask questions about where the box lives. Cache trash but at least ram is real.
Your dedi resale is probably in a NOC somewhere in Malaysia with a single upstream, but if latency to Manila works, it works.
Real question for edge people: has anyone tested BunnyCDN origin pull against these budget hosts? I run Bunny in front of a €5 Contabo box for static assets and the hit ratio is better than RackNerd's own cache layer. Costs me maybe €0.30 extra monthly.
I've racked actual hardware at four colos in Chicago and one in Dallas. The gap between "budget VPS" and "actual server you can touch" is smaller than people think if you're willing to buy used. Dell R630, $200 on eBay, $40/month colo. That's dedicated resources, no overselling, and you control the NIC firmware.
Not for everyone. But if you're running game servers for money, the capex/opex flip makes sense around month eight.
Or you just abuse Oracle Cloud free tier like a normal person. 4 instances, 24GB total, Amsterdam region. Been running my tracker for 14 months, zero bill. They throttle sometimes but "free" is a strong price.

Oracle free tier is not hosting, it is gambling. I prefer predictability.
Bunny works well with Hetzner actually, their Falkenstein POP has good peering. But for dynamic content the origin still matters, CDN does not fix oversold CPU. My Contabo box with Bunny in front still had TPS drops during peak because origin could not generate pages fast enough.
Cache ratio good, origin generation bad. Same problem.
So if I'm understanding right, OVHcloud VPS at €8 (https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/vps/) is basically same tier as Hetzner entry? And the parent company thing, is there actually a list or is DudeKlx just wrong about Hetzner owning RackNerd? Because I keep seeing different answers everywhere.
Wrong ja. I was imprecise. Same datacenter region, not same ownership. Hetzner operates own ASN 24940. RackNerd leases in same facilities, different ASN. My mistake from quick lookup.
Parent companies: Newfold Digital owns Bluehost, HostGator, bunch of others. GoDaddy owns itself. OVHcloud is independent. Hetzner independent. Contabo independent. RackNerd independent. No big secret holding company.
