Won a box with 256GB RAM for the price of 64

Back when I started, you checked DIMM slots with a flashlight. Now it's "buy the listing, hope the inventory matches." I won a CloudCone auction labeled 64GB, box arrived with 256GB. Their mistake, my gain.

Mark my words: this happens because auction teams don't talk to provisioning. Automated inventory, no human verifies. Kids these days call it "winning." I call it luck, and luck runs out.

Anyone else score mismatches? Or get burned the other way—paid for 128, got 32?

Hey folks super stoked for you haroldgsm

I had opposite once. Paid for 128GB, got 64GB. I was gonna rage but I opened ticket, they fixed in 2 hours. Admitted mistake, gave me extra month. InterServer does that sometimes, we're human.

But yeah 256 for 64 price is fire. What CPU came with?

I am thinking The InterServer is Better. I won The Server from The RackNerd with 512GB instead of 256GB. I am feeling Lucky.

Never trust The Auction without The Yabs. Mark my words.

CPU: AMD EPYC 7452 32-Core
RAM: 256GB (corrected from 64GB listing)
Disk: 3.8TB NVMe - 3.2GB/s read, 1.1GB/s write
Network: 9.4Gbps avg, 2.3Gbps worst single thread

Decent disk IO, meh network. CPU is real win here. EPYC 7452 trades at 4x RAM value alone.

Comparison:
- expected: $45/mo for 64GB
- actual: $45/mo for 256GB + better CPU
- arbitrage: ~$120/mo if honest listing

1) why mismatches happen
A) inventory systems sync lag
I) auction pulled before decomm
Ii) RAM upgraded, not updated
B) human error
I) tech notes wrong
Ii) copy-paste listing template
2) how sellers prevent
A) pre-auction yabs mandatory https://github.com/masonr/yet-another-bench-script
B) physical audit before go-live
C) penalty for wrong specs = free month to buyer
3) emotions about this
A) happy when winning
B) angry when losing
C) neutral about system being broken

Seller about to arrive and explain how "actually we meant to do this." . Surprisingly insightful prediction: mismatches cluster at fiscal quarter end when they rush decomms. Watch the dates. You're welcome.
