What's the actual cost after 'intro' pricing?

After extensive analysis across our redundant feeds and N+1 infrastructure deployments, we've observed significant variance in enterprise-grade renewal pricing post-introductory term.

Our enterprise-grade sales engineering team has compiled the following from our partner ecosystem; specific enterprise-grade pricing is available through sales engagement:

  • Contabo: intro €4/mo; renewal €9/mo; enterprise-grade uplift at 18 months
  • Vultr: intro $3/mo; renewal $8/mo; redundant feeds not guaranteed on base tier
  • OVHcloud: intro €5/mo; renewal €7/mo; most stable enterprise-grade trajectory
  • HostHatch: intro $2/mo; renewal $12/mo; N+1 only on premium locations

Enterprise-grade TCO analysis suggests factoring egress and support tiers. Sales can elaborate.

DDoS mitigation context: intro pricing often excludes scrubbing capacity. Vultr's base tier filters at 3Gbps; upgrade to 10Gbps scrubbing adds €15/mo. Anycast on Contabo is €8/mo extra after month 12. OVHcloud uses centralized scrubbing, not anycast, which adds 15-25ms under attack.

Real cost = intro + mitigation + overages. Most don't model this.

I have been tracking my own renewals since 2022. The pattern is depressingly consistent. The intro price is a loss leader. The renewal subsidizes it. Semicolons separate my thoughts more than commas ever could. I have created a spreadsheet. It tracks sixteen providers across thirty-seven SKUs. The average renewal multiplier is 2.7x. The worst offender in my data is RackNerd at 4.2x — https://www.racknerd.com. The most honest is Leaseweb at 1.4x. I will share the sheet if there is interest. It is not enterprise-grade. It is merely honest;

London perspective: VAT adds another 20% on top if you're not VAT-registered. My Contabo renewal jumped from €4 to €9 then to €10.80 after VAT. Nobody talks about the VAT cliff.

The 18-month cliff is real. I've seen Contabo contracts where month 19 hits you with both the uplift AND a bandwidth commitment you didn't have before. Read the MSA.

I have shared the spreadsheet. Link is in my profile. Thirty-seven SKUs; sixteen providers. The semicolons are not a bug; they are a feature;

Interest. Also: does your sheet capture the kubernetes tax? Managed k8s on OVHcloud is €30/mo before you run a single pod. Not intro pricing; just the control plane.

Vultr's anycast is BGP-based from their own ASN. Not true anycast in the 802.1Q sense; more like geo-DNS with a routing table. I've traced it. The anycast IP lives in New Jersey even when you hit "Amsterdam."

Chicago here. We don't have VAT but Illinois has a 6.25% use tax on remote computing services that nobody collects until they audit you. Found this out the hard way.
