Hello all, I have make a search since 2 days and I dont know what to choose for log aggregation. I have a small setup on HostHatch, 4 vps, very small budget.
It is possible to do that with Loki self-hosted? Or paid solution like from Vultr is better? I have make test with Loki but it is slow on my 2GB ram vps. Mdr.

Whats EPS? I see it everywhere for logs. Also is Loki hard to setup? I only used syslog before. Thank you!

To be honest, EPS = events per second. 100 EPS is quiet homelab. 10K EPS is busy small SaaS.
- Loki single-binary: 512MB RAM, 1 vCPU handles 2K EPS
- Your 2GB VPS chokes because default config wants boltdb-shipper + filesystem
- Switch to tsdb index, S3-compatible storage on GreenCloudVPS
- Limit ingestion to 7 days local, rest to object storage
As said, I run this exact setup. $4/month HostHatch, 10K EPS sustained. Dry fact: most people misconfigure retention, not Loki itself.

@sarahjey EPS is just how many log lines per second! Not dumb question at all!
@lucgone sent ticket yesterday to optimize your Loki config, made test order on my side with same specs. Key is single-binary mode with tsdb. Cheers!
