Telegram bot. Free, reliable, I get it on my phone and my laptop. I have a group chat with my two partners and the bot spams there.
We had email. We missed a disk-full warning for 14 hours because it went to spam. Never again.
What do you use for domain monitoring that catches issues before customers do?
PagerDuty free tier for one user, hooked to my self-hosted Uptime Kuma. 50 SMS per month.
I am in Atlanta, the SMS arrives in about 10 seconds. Not bad for zero dollars.
Uptime Kuma is good. I ran it for a year before I outgrew the single-node problem. If the Kuma host goes down, who watches the watcher?
That is why I went to distributed. But for $20 and one person? Kuma plus Telegram is a solid start.

I have 7 uptime kuma instances because I kept spinning them up on cheap vps and forgetting about them
One of them emails me that another one is down. It is not a good system. It is a system.

I found a server in a dumpster and now I am here, and also I run Uptime Kuma in a container on that server.
It has survived two Israeli summers with no air conditioning. The hard drive sounds like a helicopter. Kuma keeps running.
I do not recommend this.
I boot my monitoring from the network so if the machine dies I just PXE another one. Kuma in a container, nothing local except the bootloader.
Took me a weekend to set up. Now it is boring, which is the goal.

Back to reality for me: I am going to try Kuma + Telegram + maybe one cheap external check from HostHatch or somewhere. That gets me redundancy for under $20.

HostHatch Tokyo or Singapore would be good for you. Different upstreams from Hetzner. I have used both, latency to Seoul is fine.
Check their storage VPS if you only need ping and curl. Cheaper than compute.

I run my external checks from a ConoHa VPS in Tokyo. 900 yen, about $6. They peer differently from my main provider.

Has anyone tried the CloudCone monitoring that is built into their control panel? I have a VPS there but never turned it on.
Is it just ping or does it do HTTP properly?
