I have the same experience as WhiteLife but in month 8. Maybe I am lucky or maybe Ashburn degraded recently. Hard to tell without more data.
The $1/month host that wasn't terrible
This. I have been on their 4 EUR plan in Falkenstein for three years, zero issues. The cheap promo tiers seem to be where the problems cluster.
My electricity in Tokyo costs more than the Hetzner instance. I run my home lab for fun but anything 24/7 goes to cloud. The $1 tier would save me money even with the recent uptime issues.
¡the support slow they are, but solve finally! WhiteLife you need patience much~~~ 91% is bad very much, maybe change to Falkenstein?
To close the loop on my DPA comment: I received a response in June 2025, three months after my request. The DPA exists but their process is clearly not prioritized. For GDPR-covered data I would still look elsewhere.
Summary after 20 months for anyone landing here late:
- The $1 tier is real but US-Ashburn only, annual prepay
- Performance is fine for low-traffic workloads
- Uptime was good until recently, now degrading for some
- Do not use for mail, do not use for GDPR-covered data without patience for paperwork
- Use netinstall ISOs, skip templates
I am migrating my API to the 4 EUR Falkenstein plan. The savings are not worth the uncertainty anymore.
Did anyone mention they charge in EUR even for US services? My bank charged forex fees that made it closer to $1.40/month effective. Small but real.
