Birmingham UK, running systemd on a Bytemark VM and systemd on a local Proxmox box. Never even seen an OpenRC template from a UK provider. Is it actually offered anywhere mainstream or is this a self-install thing?

This. The Oracle OCI agent, the AWS SSM agent, the Azure VM agent, all systemd units. You can wrap them, but now you are the maintainer of that wrapper forever. For what, 20MB of RAM?

Paris here. I run systemd on Scaleway and I run systemd at work. The only place I see OpenRC is in Docker containers that need an init, and even there people are moving to tini or just using systemd in the container. The init system inside a container debate is its own thread though.
Stockholm. I have a Gentoo box at home with OpenRC because I am that guy. But my VPSs? All systemd. Hetzner, GleSYS, local ISP. No provider gives you Gentoo. The gap between "what I run for fun" and "what I run for money" is real.
London, running systemd on DigitalOcean and Linode since 2014. I do not think I have ever logged in and thought "this init system is my problem today." Downtime has always been disk, network, or me. Never init.

I learning server very much. I use systemd because my teacher say use Ubuntu. Maybe later I try Alpine but now I need my homework run.
Bangalore. My company uses systemd on AWS. I have a personal VPS on Contabo that came with systemd. I tried to read about OpenRC differences and every article turned into a flamewar. Hard to find actual technical comparison.
Following this thread. I have a $3.50 Vultr box with systemd and a $2.50 Racknerd box with systemd. Starting to think "came with the template" is the real answer for 90% of us.

20 years in. Started with SysV init, lived through Upstart, now systemd. The thing that actually matters is "can I find the answer on Stack Overflow in 30 seconds." systemd wins that by volume. OpenRC answers exist but they are scattered across Gentoo wikis and old forums. Time is the real cost.
