Vultr's Bangalore latency to my home fiber is 12ms. That's not relevant to this thread but since we're doing location callouts I wanted to contribute something with actual numbers.
On topic: I moderate a small Django group. We pinned a "don't" list. First item: no single-word replies. Compliance went from 40% to 85% in a month. The rest got quiet bans.
The problem isn't "first", the problem is nobody reads.
In Argentina the blue dollar is more stable than most of the hosts we use. I've got boxes at Hetzner Falkenstein, OVH Gravelines, and a RackNerd in LA that I paid three years for because it was so cheap it hurt. But back to the point: if people don't read the rules, it doesn't matter if it's auto-collapse or delete or ban.
Has anyone actually measured if "first" replies drive away quality posters? I keep seeing the claim but no data. My gut says the real problem is OPs who never follow up, not the first reply.
