Should I specialize in bare metal or cloud?

Been benchmarking both sides for 3 weeks. Here's what I got.

Bare metal (OVHcloud €49/mo):
CPU: 18423
Disk: 1.2 GB/s seq read
Network: 0.8 Gbps avg

Cloud (GreenCloudVPS 4vCPU):
CPU: 15200
Disk: 0.4 GB/s seq read
Network: 2.1 Gbps avg

Decent disk IO, meh network on metal. Opposite on cloud.

  • Metal: predictable, locked in, harder to scale
  • Cloud: flexible, metered, vendor maze

Crossroads. Pick one or starve in middle??

Wey bro the answer is both no?

I was doing solo cloud stuff in 2022 and almost went broke bro. Then started doing migrations back to metal for startups and now I eat good wey.

The niche is "cloud repatriation" bro. Companies spend $40k on GreenCloudVPS (https://greencloudvps.com) and their app runs same on a $6k Leaseweb box. They dont know until someone shows them the bill.

Hybrid future wey. Dont specialize, arbitrage!

Idk why I do this but I spent last night moving my pihole from docker on cloud to a $15/mo CloudCone dedi

Anyway the dedi has been up 94 days and I only logged in twice. The cloud vm needed restarts for "maintenance windows" like 4 times

The real flex is having both and forgetting which is which until something breaks at 3am

builds at 3AM, sleeps at noon

@pablo sent ticket yesterday to GreenCloudVPS about egress pricing. Made test order on OVHcloud to compare. Numbers dont lie!

Cheers for sharing that niche. Had client last month who could have saved maybe 60% with hybrid setup. Will follow up with them!

Wesh

Le bare metal حلو for the base load. Le cloud حلو for the spikes. Incha'allah your uptime stays 99.99% but you need both to survive the billing surprise

I did pure cloud for 2 years. Facture was... not good. Now I run le hybrid and sleep better
