So I actually wanted to stream my 4K Remux Collection to family abroad and sat down to calculate the Bandwidth requirements for even two concurrent Streams and the EgressFees from my Vultr Instance actually multiplied so fast that I ended up with Numbers higher than my monthly RentPayment or? Then I looked at Physical media prices and realized I could actually buy the actual BluRays for less than three Months of that BandwidthBill and give them to my Cousins in person or? Has anyone actually made this Work economically without selling Organs or?

My ServerSpecs for Reference:

  • Vultr BasicCompute 4 vCPU
  • 8GB Memory allocation
  • 4TB StorageVolume (slow tier unfortunately)
  • 10TB monthly TransferQuota

Have you considered HEVC direct-play instead of transcode?

Most clients now support it. No server-side conversion means your 80 Mbps Remux becomes... 80 Mbps direct stream. The bandwidth still costs, but you avoid the CPU overhead entirely.

I run a similar setup in an Asia-Pacific location with lower egress rates. It is not perfect, but manageable for 2-3 users.
