Renewal price shock: my $12 became $48

Wesh everyone

So le server was حلو for one year, incha'allah the uptime stayed good, but now renewal hit and Contabo want 48$ / month instead of 12$. I did not read the small lines, my fault maybe, but caramba... 4x ?

They say "introductory pricing" back to "standard rate". I feel stupid and poor now. Anyone else got bitten by this ? I need solidarity or solutions, both accepted

SAME HERE MY FRIEND! Vultr did this to me, 9$ to 39$! I almost fall from the chair!

But we make a test now, I put calendar reminder 11 months before renewal, and I make script to migrate automatic. Is very good! I learn the hard way but now I am prepared!

You can do it too, dont let them win!

Best practices for pricing transparency:

  • Review terms of service for introductory rate duration
  • Set calendar reminders 60 days prior to renewal
  • Maintain infrastructure-as-code templates for provider migration
  • Budget at standard rate from month one

Hetzner offers consistent pricing with no introductory traps. Full specs available at hetzner.com.

I've been a customer for a couple of years now and this is what I do to avoid surprises.

Mark my words, the introductory pricing model will collapse when enough users automate their exit.

I built provider-rotation automation in 2019. Ansible playbooks, Terraform state, DNS failover. Takes 45 minutes to migrate entirely. The script lives here:

Contabo's standard rate was hidden in the terms or what

Same vibe here, Vultr got me too

It was there, page 3 of the contract, "first billing period discounted". I just did not expect 4x. In Morocco 12$ was already big for my project, 48$ is death. I am moving to Hetzner now, thanks to harbourops for the tip. Their 4€ plan is honest at least.

Same city same problem brother. I was with Contabo too, the Nuremberg datacenter. Now I check Hetzner Falkenstein, ping is good from Casa. Did you already migrate or still preparing ?

This is my new religion! I print this and put on wall!

But honest, your script is too much for me. I use simple rsync and snapshot. For my café project is enough.

Keep an eye on the VAT treatment if you are billing from Morocco. Hetzner invoices in EUR from Germany, your bank may take a conversion bite. Still better than 48$, but factor it in.

I moved a client from Contabo London to Hetzner Nuremberg last year, the storage box pricing is also flat. No games.
