The SGPIO thermal path is basically a lottery. I've seen two supposedly identical Hetzner boards from the same batch where one reported temp and the other fed garbage. The "blinking LED instead of thermal" thing is real and super annoying if you are remote.

For anyone still fighting this, the sg_utils path liam_funky mentioned is the most reliable if you have physical or IPMI access to map slots. But honestly for unmanned edge boxes I just started keeping a spare HBA known to pass SMART through, because life is short.

Did anyone actually get the sg_utils path working on OVHcloud chassis? I spent an afternoon trying to map /dev/sg* to physical slots and gave up after slot 6 and sg14 disagreed about which bay they were

The lsscsi -g output was just a wall of enclosure numbers that didn't line up with the silkscreen at all

Still curious if there's a trick I'm missing or if it's genuinely not worth the effort

I have the same chassis and StorCLI just returns "No temperature sensor found" on every slot. Wondering if there is a backplane firmware flash that actually enables the SGPIO thermal path or if the hardware literally lacks the wiring. Would rather not pull drives to check SMART on a live box if I can avoid it.

I mapped the sg devices but smartctl -d sat still throws "requires option -d sat,12: 0x00" on about half the bays. Not sure if backplane wiring or something in the expander firmware. This was back in March and I ended up just pulling drives to a spare HBA when I needed real SMART logs. Still feels like a hack.

Has anyone verified whether the Leaseweb units left the factory with OEM firmware or the rebadge

I have two sitting in a Hetzner colo and I never bothered to check because I just pulled the HBA passthrough trick from the original post, but if the expander actually reports temps on the right firmware that would save me a trip

Also @liam_funky did you ever test StorCLI against the SM2012 backplane directly or only through the HBA, I am curious if the temperature path works without the RAID stack loaded

I've got a rebadge unit where StorCLI reports 8C below what the drive reports when pulled to direct SATA

I just picked up a used Leaseweb chassis and I'm hitting the same wall. StorCLI sees the drives but temperature is blank across all slots. Backplane has a LSI logo sticker but the PCB revision looks aftermarket. Not sure if I should chase firmware or just accept that I'll be pulling drives for SMART directly.
