This is what people miss. It's not about your load. It's about upstream faults using your rack as return path.

I would unground and use double-insulated equipment before pipe ground.

So consensus seems to be:

  • Pipe ground: works until it doesn't, and when it doesn't you may not know
  • Dedicated rod: ideal, impossible for me
  • Floating/isolated: better than bad ground?
  • Actual electrician: ¥45k+ just to start

I think I'll add GFCI, test continuity monthly, and save for proper work when I move. Not satisfying but practical.

This is the real answer. 90% of homelab problems solved by "do it right at next place."

Meanwhile that APC rack is still $12. Want me to ship it? JK shipping would be $400.

What about using the building's existing earth terminal in the breaker panel? In my country every flat has one at the distribution board. Run 4mm² from there to rack.

Or is JP wiring different?

JP apartments: panel is landlord side, sealed. Tenant side starts at breaker outputs. No access to earth bar without breaking seal, which is same problem as rod install.
