I) GRE
Ii) IPIP
Iii) WireGuard
Iv) OpenVPN
V) IPsec/IKEv2

B) Context
I) For VPS-to-VPS or homelab-to-cloud links
Ii) Worst-host compatibility matters
Iii) Not asking about production DC interconnects
2. My own answer
A) Currently using WireGuard
B) But breaks on some OpenVZ legacy nodes
C) Considering GRE fallback for those cases
3. Vote and explain your reasoning
A) Especially interested in "it just works" stories

1) My answer: GRE
1.1) Reasons:
A) Kernel module everywhere
I) Even on garbage hosts
Ii) Even on outdated kernels
B) No crypto overhead
I) CPU stays idle
Ii) Throughput higher
2) Emotional state about this:
2.1) Surprised
2.2) Resigned
2.3) GRE is the cockroach of protocols
3) What I actually run:
I) WireGuard for anything I care about
Ii) GRE for the broken boxes

¡the protocol simple wins!

1) GRE for me also
A) the hosts bad give problems with wireguard
B) the module not load in kernel old!
C) the provider cheap cheap no help!

Mas ipsec is the protocol secure the more, ¡the configuration horrible!

¡GRE just works!
