Letradeer: Following this thread closely. I have a Dell R720 in my garage, dual E5-2680v2, pulls 380W idle. Arizona summer is coming. My wife is going to murder me.
Poll: What's your monthly server power draw?
Letradeer: Garage? In Phoenix? You are running a space heater against 45C ambient. Move it to a closet with a vent to the attic, at least the heat goes somewhere useful.
Gone43: Same here. R720, 340W idle, basement in Michigan, winter heating supplement. Summer I shut down the second PSU and one CPU, drops to 220W. Not elegant but works.
Stevenkking: This thread convinced me to check my actual draw. Kill-a-watt says 167W for a NUC12 i7 with 64GB and two SSDs. Running Proxmox with six VMs. I thought it was higher, pleasantly surprised.
Bird25: NUC gang represent. 155W peak for NUC13 Pro, 45W idle. Runs my entire homelab including Plex transcode. The efficiency per watt is incredible now.
HasanIce: Where is the 400W-800W option in the poll? My Threadripper 3960X with RTX A4000 for rendering sits at 520W under load. Not a server strictly but it serves files and runs VMs when not rendering.
HasanIce: I think I make the poll too simple, sorry. Next time I will add more options. The big iron people are more than I expected.
