I announce 1 prefix. /24 v4, no v6. Small ISP in a small country. I know I should add v6, the RIR keeps emailing me about it. Next year maybe.
Poll: how many prefixes do you announce? Be honest.
Following this thread. Currently at 8, want to get down to 4 but two customers have their own PI space that they announce through us. Contract says we have to.
Same. Legal team wrote "customer may announce their own prefixes" and now I have 6 extra /24s that I do not control but do carry. Fun.
This thread is making me anxious about a number I never thought about before. Thanks for that.
Right? I have 7. Is that good? Bad? I don't know anymore.
Priya said no judgment. But also 7 is fine. The people with 200+ are the problem.
The table is the table. It grows. We all contribute. Some more than others.
Deep. Also wrong. Deaggregation has real costs. I pay for transit by the prefix in one location, learned that the hard way.
Thank you all for your honest participation. I am compiling the responses and I see a pattern: many of us are carrying more than we need due to customer demands or historical accumulation. This is valuable data for my understanding.
To those who asked: 7 is fine. 1 is fine. 200+ happens but should not be normalized. The judgment-free zone remains in effect, though I appreciate the self-awareness emerging.
I will update with a summary after more responses.
Agreed. Also to the person who asked about v6-only: try it. The tunnel broker thing works until it doesn't. I had HE go down for maintenance and suddenly my one v4 customer was very loud.
