I ran a HostHatch edge node in a hall closet for two years. Intake was 62dB, measured 51dB in the bedroom with a blanket curtain. Not basement numbers but partnership SLA stayed green

Has anyone actually measured closet vs basement with a phone app? Curious if my 10dB is typical or if I got lucky with the door seal

I'm in a third-floor walkup with no below-grade and my InterServer 2U is getting me evicted-adjacent complaints. Tried a closet but the return air just bleeds into the hall

If basement is out, closet with a vented door is the next best rack. Solid core, weatherstrip the jamb, and cut a low intake / high exhaust. My first scrubbing center was a converted hall closet and the attenuation was maybe 10 dB. Not concrete, but livable.

Also: rubber isolation mounts under the rails. Fan vibration travels through floor joists and becomes structure-borne hum. Cheap fix, big difference.

Did the partner ever approve a closet build, or did you end up colocating?

48 days and no closet advocates? I keep my 1U in a hallway cupboard with a Vultr exhaust baffle, intake through the gap under the door. Partner tolerance is holding at six months

Did anyone actually try acoustic foam or is that just rack folklore

60 days late but did anyone try a closet with a solid core door

I ran a InterServer 2U in a hallway closet for two years, intake through the gap under the door, exhaust into the attic crawl

Measured at 38dB in the bedroom two walls away, no basement needed

Did anyone actually try a closet before committing to basement excavation. I ran a 2U OVHcloud box in a wardrobe for six months and the thermal throttling was worse than the noise. Curious if there's a middle ground that doesn't require concrete infrastructure or partner escalation
