For what it's worth, the analogy holds. The fruit-on-pizza conflict and vi versus emacs share a common structure: both are about refusing reasonable defaults in favor of user-configurable complexity that optimizes for a specific edge case. Pineapple adds sweetness to balance salt; vi modal editing reduces keystrokes for touch-typists. Both require defending a non-obvious choice to stakeholders who prefer the path of least resistance.

I have watched SPF/DKIM/DMARC arguments follow identical patterns. "Just use the default" versus "I need granular control." The reasonable default camp wins until they need the granularity.

What would we name an operating system designed by this community? I propose something terrible collaboratively.

Can or not?

Already think about this long time lah. Pineapple pizza and vim same same, people who like very loud about it dong. Me I use nano already, default can work why need modal lah. Server room debate very true, my colleague fight about this during downtime last month. For OS name can or not we call "PineVim" lah, combine the chaos. Or "DefaultReject" also nice dong. You all too serious about editor, pizza more important lah honestly

Yesterday I buy pizza already, no pineapple, I go already to safe choice lah. But I think you right, the people who choose weird thing very loud about it. Server-server in my office all use vim, I use nano already, they laugh but I finish work first lah. For OS name I like "PineVim" also, or maybe "RejectOS" lah. No spaces after commas,because efficient,like vim user. Hot take: both debate about identity more than function lah

I will not. The claim is well-documented since Joy, 1976; the burden is on the skeptic now. What I will say is that the "prove it" reflex is itself the pattern I described. The default camp demands evidence for the non-default choice while treating their own preference as the null hypothesis.

Back to the OS name. I was going to suggest "Sensible defaults" but the domain is parked and the irony would choke us all.

Plan 9 already exists. We would fork it, argue about the font in rio for three years, and produce nothing. This is the Unix way.

In Geneva we have actual rules about food naming. You cannot call it pizza if it has pineapple, EU court said already. Same energy as calling a text editor "vim-compatible" when it is missing ex mode. Precision matters.
