Outage culture: why we rush to post before confirming

Twenty years in this business. Back when we had pagers, you verified before screaming. Now I see threads: "Contabo down?" with zero traceroute, zero looking glass check. Kids these days treat forums as therapy, not diagnostics.

I include myself. The dopamine of "me too" is addictive. Mark my words, this will only worsen as providers multiply and attention spans shrink. The first post in an outage thread is almost always wrong.

Please, veteran_harold. I observed server down, I post immediately. No time for check, outage thread is for confirm. Community help together, find truth faster. Wrong post is start please.

I attempt to wait ten minutes. Two spaces after periods. The urge to post is social, not technical. We seek confirmation of our own experience before accepting it as real. I have drafted posts I did not submit. The discipline is learned, not innate.

Let us consider that the outage thread serves as reassurance that one is not alone in one's suffering. I apologize for the philosophical nature of this contribution.

47 Gbps reflected UDP last Tuesday. Filtering layer 7 exhausted, scrubbing failover to secondary. Anycast announcement withdrawn, traffic shifted in 90 seconds. Downtime 4 minutes. No forum post required; monitoring handled it.
