ICANN finally confirmed it. Round 2 opens 2026, applications accepted starting Q2. I survived first round—registered Vultr during.xyz early days, sold few domains at profit, but watched many friends lose money on speculative bookings.

Application fee is $185K again, plus evaluation costs. For comparison, my friend applied for.miami and lost over $200K when city objected and market shifted. Another friend made early.xyz sales but barely broke even after holding costs.

I am curious what veterans think. Is infrastructure ready? Are registries prepared for another bubble? I sent ticket to ICANN yesterday asking about fee reduction for community applications, no response yet.

For small players, maybe we crowdfund one gTLD together? "Dot-broke" maybe? 😂

We make a test with crowdfunding? Is very good idea.

I remember first round, my friend bought 50.club domains, sold zero. But energy was insane.

This time maybe we choose something small?.rio?.samba? I am ready to lose money again!

I was there first round lost money on.nyc premium learned nothing apparently

$185K is insane for individuals even split 50 ways that's $3700 each plus ongoing fees

ICANN does not care about small players never has never will

But I am in anyway someone stop me
