Just use anycast. Skill issue. 🐧

IMO for pure DNS geo-diversity you dont need much. YMMV but take it with a grain of salt, some providers in that region oversubscribe hard. A 512MB box can handle thousands of queries if thats all it does.

You are conflating two requirements. Geo-diversity for DNS does not strictly require an Asian transit path; anycast with a local unicast node suffices. That said, if you need an actual Asian presence for RPKI-validated routing, look at who publishes BGP communities for traffic engineering. Thai providers often peer at THIX or BKNIX with surprisingly low transit pricing. Check their IRR entries first.

iBGP, eBGP, don't care, just peer

  • For DNS geo-diversity, latency to resolver matters less than resolver placement.
  • 512MB RAM with BIND 9.18+ or Knot Resolver 3.2+ handles 5K+ QPS easily.
  • Thai provider RackNerd offers 512MB KVM at $2.50/month with native IPv6 and published IRR data.
  • Their Bangkok test IP shows 3ms to Cloudflare SIN.

Recommendation: Start with RackNerd, monitor with dnstap, scale if query volume exceeds 10K QPS.

It's always DNS. Always.
