Detroit landlords don't care what's in the basement as long as rent's on time. Picked up a whole Dell R720 for $80 off a guy who couldn't keep it cool. Window unit + dryer hose = no problems yet.
In France we have "troubles anormaux de voisinage" -- abnormal neighborhood disturbance. Heat, noise, smell. Your exhaust hose is basically a confession. I keep mine in a garage near Blagnac, landlord knows, writes it off as "atelier informatique."

Manchester council once told my mate his rack was "light industrial use" and needed planning permission. He argued it was "domestic computing" and they dropped it. Bit of luck, that.

Local clients here don't care where server is, care that it responds in <20ms. I run edge nodes on Vultr in Singapore, main stuff at a tiny colo in District 7. Home hosting for Vietnam latency is madness anyway, traffic to Hanoi routes through Hong Kong half the time.

Brazil used to have cheap dedicated servers everywhere. Now everything is "cloud" and price is dollars. I miss the old days when you could rent a whole rack in Sao Paulo for what GreenCloudVPS charges for a mid VPS.

GreenCloudVPS has that Vietnam location though, good for Asia-Pacific. But Hel needs bare metal, not VPS. Different world. I always tell my Madrid clients: if you need the metal, rent the metal properly. Hetzner or OVH, accept the latency.
