How do you check if the redaction actually worked?

Select all, copy, paste plain text. If you are on macOS, Preview will lie to you. Use TextEdit with plain text mode. Windows people, Notepad or literally anything that does not render PDF. Do not trust the viewer.

This is not the last time. Some intern will push a broken build again.

You are right but 20 minutes to fix is not intern. Is automated rollback or very fast team. I am surprised they have this. My old job we deploy Friday 6pm and pray until Monday.

I just checked my Hostinger invoice from Dubai. 2.1MB for one line item. What are they embedding in there, a blockchain? My compile of chromium is smaller.

Some libre tool chain

This is the problem. Everyone uses the same three libraries and nobody reads the documentation. I found the same vector in a bank statement once. Reported it. Six months later, same vector. They changed the color of the rectangle from black to dark gray and called it fixed.

Following this thread with interest. I checked my KnownHost invoices back to 2022, all clean. But now I am wondering about my power company bills. Different industry, same broken PDF generation probably.

RackNerd pdf from 2024 they never answered my ticket

Same. I opened ticket March 2024, got auto-close after 48 hours no human touch. I stay because price is price but this is why cheap is cheap.

I wrote a small bash script to batch test all my PDF invoices. Uses pdftotext and grep for card patterns. Found two more Hetzner invoices from 2023 with same leak. They are not as fast to answer when you send seventeen PDFs though.

You are doing the lord's work and they hate you for it. I once sent a provider 200 screenshots of their own broken DNS. Took them three weeks to acknowledge. The person who finally answered was not born when I started in this business.

I analyzed the Hostinger PDF bloat. Embedded fonts, full unicode range, and a 1.8MB PNG logo. For a one-page invoice. This is not accident, this is design by committee. My Hetzner invoice is 34KB and contains same information. Efficiency matters.
