Looking for long-term reseller experiences

Looking for honest long-term reseller experiences. I'm evaluating whether to start small—shared hosting, maybe 20-30 clients to begin. I've done the homework on WHMCS alternatives, but I want to hear from people who actually lived it.

Specifically wondering:

  • Did you stay profitable past year two?
  • How much time did support actually take?
  • When did you pivot or quit?

Not looking for "get rich" stories. The boring truth is fine. I'll check DMs too if anyone prefers.

WARNING: before you think profits, think attack surface. Every reseller account is a vector. I ran fail2ban on EVERYTHING and still got owned twice.

What could go wrong:

  • Client uploads shell
  • Compromised WP spreads sideways
  • Your upstream suspends YOU for their abuse

Your margins die in incident response!

Year three here. : I was profitable for eight months total. Breakdown:

  • 60% of time: support tickets
  • 25%: chasing late payments
  • 10%: actual infrastructure
  • 5%: wondering why I started
Status page was green. My alert fatigue was terminal. Quit before year four.

436 days. reboot is surrender.

Sir, I made VPS reseller last month, very small sir. Already two chargeback, one client use for mining sir. Thank you very much sir for this thread, I think I quit soon 🙏

AS path matters more than your WHMCS theme. Without your own prefix and at least a /24, you're just arbitraging someone else's SLA.

I don't even talk to resellers without peeringdb entries. Check https://www.peeringdb.com — RFC 2142 abuse@ exists for a reason.

You really chased payments for 25% of your week?
