Looking for honest comparison of 'budget cloud' providers

I stay with HostHatch for storage VPS bro. EUR 40/year for 1TB. Slow yes, but for backups who cares? Not for production wey.

And about mail: I use Mailgun for transactional, personal Mailcow is on a residential IP with reverse proxy. Not worth the fight with blocklists bro.

THERE IT IS. This is what I'm talking about. Every "review" says "great performance" because they ran dd once on a fresh node before the noisy neighbors moved in.

I'm going to run fio on my Contabo Singapore boxes this weekend and post numbers. If they're doing the same QoS games in APAC I'm moving everything to OVHcloud or biting the bullet on HostHatch.

How's their Tokyo DC for you? I need sub-100ms to Sydney and their site claims "premium network" which usually means "we bought transit from NTT and marked it up 400%."

Following this thread closely. Currently on RackNerd LA for a Plex server and the disk IO is so bad that 4K transcodes stutter with direct stream. Their "SSD Cached" means "we have an SSD somewhere in the building, good luck."

Support ticket open 11 days. No response.

Confirmed. Their Falkenstein /16 has a SenderScore of 42 last I checked. That's not "difficult," that's "abandon ship." OVHcloud Gravelines is marginally better at 58, which is still "bulk folder with prejudice."

The only budget provider I've found with consistently clean IPs for mail is Vultr, and even there you need to request a fresh allocation and explain your use case. Their Paris and London ranges seem best.

But honestly if you're serious about deliverability, budget VPS is the wrong layer to optimize. Get a cheap compute box and relay through Postmark or Mailgun. The IP reputation problem is structural to the business model.

Late to this but I wanted to add: RackNerd's "dedicated" plans are still KVM with pinned vCPUs, not actual bare metal. I asked in a ticket and they confirmed. The wording is misleading if you don't know to ask.

Their Amsterdam location is actually a ColoCrossing facility. Nothing wrong with that, but know what you're buying.

I'm on Hetzner Cloud in Ashburn now — https://www.hetzner.com/cloud. EUR 5.35 for CX11, single core but it's a real AMD EPYC core and the network is stable. Latency to my parents in Boston is 12ms.
