DigitalOcean is USD though. For EU-based billing OVHcloud and Hetzner are easier with local VAT handling. My clients hate USD invoices because the rupiah conversion bounces around.
I have been reselling Contabo VPS to local shops here. No IPv6 means I am stuck telling warung owners their online shops cannot reach IPv6-only customers. Contabo "coming soon" for two years now.
This is why I run my own tunnel. Hurricane Electric gives you a /48, free, forever. Sure it's a tunnel, but I have had less downtime on HE than on some "native" providers whose IPv6 is just tunneled anyway behind prettier marketing.
The real problem is mobile networks. My ISP here in Portland is IPv6-only on 5G. Sites without AAAA records are proxied through CGNAT that breaks WebSockets. IPv6 is not future. It is now for anyone on cellular.

My electric bill says otherwise. Running a box 24/7 just to terminate a tunnel, plus the ISP modem, plus the switch, plus the Pi that runs the tunnel endpoint because I do not trust the ISP router... it adds up. I measured 45W constant for my "free" IPv6 setup. At Portland rates that is what, $4-5/month anyway?
Native IPv6 from the VPS provider is cheaper if you factor the hardware cost. I moved everything to Vultr last year.
Has anyone tried Linode? They got bought by Akamai, not sure what changed. Their site still says IPv6 included but I do not see prefix size mentioned anywhere.

Akamai Linode gives /64 per instance, routed properly. Verified in their London region last month. No SLAAC weirdness, static allocation in /etc/network/interfaces or cloud-init.
The Akamai CDN backend actually helps with IPv6 peering. Better paths to some eyeball networks than Vultr in my testing from Utrecht. Not dramatic but noticeable on large transfers.
I am on UpCloud right now. IPv6 included, /64 per server, EUR billing. Their Helsinki datacenter has been solid. Price is higher than Hetzner Budget but I am not paying the protocol tax so it evens out for me.
Only complaint: their API still does not let you request specific /64 prefixes. You get what you get. Fine for most, annoying if you are migrating and want to keep reverse DNS clean.

Not a blocker for me. I will check them out. Their EUR pricing is clean and Madrid latency to Helsinki is fine.
So far my short list:
- Vultr: /64 confirmed, USD billing, good Madrid peering
- OVHcloud: cheap, slow to activate, EUR
- UpCloud: /64, EUR, higher base price
Anyone used Hetzner Cloud proper? Not the Budget line with the IPv6 tax. Their regular cloud instances, do those include IPv6?
Yes. Hetzner Cloud (the non-Budget line) includes IPv6. /64 per server, no add-on. The Budget line is where they stick the fee.
Problem is the price gap. Cloud CX11 is 4.51 EUR, Budget is 3.79 EUR plus 2 EUR for IPv6. So they made the Budget line look cheaper in comparison tables while hiding the protocol tax. Classic anchoring.
If you want Hetzner, skip Budget. Not worth the headache. Their cloud pricing is at https://www.hetzner.com/cloud.
This whole thread is why I just run dual stack at home and use Cloudflare Spectrum for anything that needs inbound. My ISP gives me a dynamic /56. Cloudflare proxies both stacks. The origin only needs IPv4.
Not a VPS solution but for web services it solves the reachability problem without caring what the host does.

That works for HTTP but I need SMTP and custom protocols. Spectrum pricing jumps hard for non-HTTP. Also I prefer native termination for TLS fingerprinting reasons.
Thanks everyone. Going with Hetzner Cloud CX11 for the EU project and Vultr for US east. Native /64 both, no tunnel games, no add-on fees. Will report back if the OVHcloud activation delay thing bites me on a future project.
