Running game servers on a tight budget. Need DDoS filtering under 500Gbps commitment. Currently on a regional provider with no mitigation. Last week we took a 180Gbps hit and : 6 hours of downtime, 99.2% monthly uptime blown. Looking at always-on vs on-demand options. Budget is roughly $400/month for the filtering layer. What are people actually using that works?

Please to consider the Total costof ownership before Decision. The always-on Model has higher BasePrice but eliminates the Activation delay. On-demand Services often have hidden Fees for the first Mitigation event per Month. I have make Experience with both Models. The AlertFatigue from false Positives on always-on Systems is not to underestimate. Please to share your Traffic pattern.

Always on is for people who hate money! On demand lets you sleep at night without paying for air! I run five game servers and only got hit twice last year! Saved eight hundred bucks going on demand! Get the filter when you need it! Fire the packet cannon!

`on-demand` is the `kubernetes` of DDoS: `orchestrate` your `defense` `ephemerally`. `always-on` is `bare metal` `pets` thinking. `cattle not pets` applies to `network paths` too. `Contabo` and `OVHcloud` both have `API-driven` `nullroute` `operators`.
Price high. Maybe possible find cheap? I not trust on-demand, sometimes activation fail
The price... Mdr. I think for game server it is possible to do that with on-demand if you have good monitoring? I know a guy who use RackNerd in east europe, very cheap, nobody talk about them here. Maybe worth to check. Good luck with your servers!
