Has anyone tried the new Orange Pi 5 Plus with the RK3588? Not proper server hardware but it has 32GB RAM support and a real M.2 slot. Still no BMC though. Just thinking about the gap between Pi and LX2K.
Looking for aRM server that isn't Raspberry Pi cluster

I have two. They're fine for light duty but the power management is garbage, no ECC, and the PCIe is gen 2 x1 effectively. Don't build infrastructure on it.
$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

If you can stretch to $600-650, keep an eye out for the SolidRun Honeycomb LX2-Lite. Newer chip, better PCIe layout, still ASPEED BMC. They show up on r/homelabsales sometimes but you need to be fast. I missed one last week at $580.

For edge, the Minisforum MS-01 is worth a look. Not ARM but 10G built in, DDR5, and runs quiet. I know this is the ARM thread but the economics are what they are right now.

Appreciate all the leads. I'm going to set alerts for LX2K and LX2-Lite, and probably rent Hetzner ARM64 (https://www.hetzner.com/cloud) for burst while I hunt. The Pi cluster stays alive for now, but I'll be happy to retire it.
If anyone finds a liquidation lot or university surplus hook, ping me. Willing to pay finder's fee.
