Left my sysadmin gig six months ago for this shiny devops title and honestly I miss the days when deploying a site meant scp and a cron job now its all helm this and argo that and terraform state files the size of novels I spent three hours yesterday debugging why a static html page wouldnt deploy and it turned out to be indentation in a yaml file three hours for spaces my old team keeps sending me memes about how theyre all kubernetes certified now and I dont even have the energy to be mad just tired

To be honest I feel this. As said, we still run bare metal for 60 percent of our fleet.

Specs of our static site stack:

  • 1x nginx on Alpine
  • 12 MB RAM per instance
  • Deploy via rsync
  • Zero YAML

Your 400-line Helm chart is not progress. It is technical debt with better branding.

My last gig moved to Kubernetes and MTTR went from 4 minutes to 47. Status page went from green to a modern art piece. Alert fatigue hit the team so hard half of them turned off PagerDuty. I keep a Grafana dashboard of my blood pressure now. It correlates with pod restart counts.
