Need automate account create for client. Anyone know if license work for multiple server or need separate?

Yes API exist. I use it with WHMCS for create account, suspend, unsuspend. License is per server, cannot share. DirectAdmin cheapest license around $2/month for personal but reseller license separate. For multiple server you need multiple license.

Cost after: $24/year panel + $18 VPS

Where are you getting a VPS for $18 a year that you would actually put a client on? Thats like 1.50 a month. I pay more than that for coffee. Is this some EU VAT thing I dont understand

Hetzner auction. ARM box, 2GB RAM. Not for everyone, but for static sites and light WordPress it does the job. https://www.hetzner.com/sb Panel costs more than the compute now. That is the world we live in.

works on my bench ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Licensing overhead is the real DDoS.

This is sig-worthy and I am stealing it.

To the people asking about API: DirectAdmin's API is REST-ish, documented at their site. It is not WHMCS-level mature but it works. I wrote a Perl wrapper in 2019, still runs today. The thing cPanel got right was ecosystem. The thing they got wrong was Oakley buying them and turning the screws.

IPv4, IRC, and irssi — fight me

I skipped this whole mess and went with CloudPanel on Hetzner. No monthly license, nginx + PHP-FPM, built-in LetsEncrypt. Clients get a stripped UI, they complain for a week, then they forget. The ones who need cPanel features were the ones who shouldn't have had them in the first place.

my cloud. my rules. my 3AM alerts.

Lower it to 300 before you start.

Update: did a migration last night, client had TTL at 86400 from 2019. Lowered it 48 hours prior, still got three angry emails during propagation. Some people have zero patience. The DNS was correct. Their browser cache was not. Always blame the sysadmin though.

Backup/restore worked fine, had to fix some DNS zones manually

What specifically broke? Was it the trailing dot on CNAME targets, or custom SPF records? I have a client with a 15-record SPF string that I am not looking forward to rebuilding by hand.

1ms or I don't want it

Custom MX priorities got reset to 10. One client had route1.mx.ephex.net through route4, all became 10. Also any TXT record over 255 chars got split wrong. DirectAdmin wants them quoted in chunks, cPanel exports them as one line. Had to rejoin in the zone file manually.

Following this closely. Currently on cPanel with Namecheap reseller, paying $180/year for 30 accounts. DirectAdmin personal plus is $24/year but only 10 accounts. Need the reseller tier at $120/year for unlimited. The math still works but not as dramatically as some people claim.

Where are you seeing $120? DirectAdmin reseller is $5/month on their site, so $60/year. Unless you're adding something else.
