Is 2-year Contabo deal insane?

Contabo is offering 40% off for 24-month prepay on their "enterprise" KVM line. I've seen three acquisitions in this price bracket fold with zero customer warning. My error budget for provider migration is already depleted from last year's KnownHost surprise.

Transparency: their status page shows 99.97% over 90 days, but I pulled their historical incidents and found two unreported 3-hour windows. No postmortem published.

I want the savings. My risk matrix says "high" for 24mo, "medium" for 12mo. Is anyone running Contabo in production? What does your transparency look like from the inside?

Brother is working with Contabo on small project :-) is not bad but hostting is slow-slow sometimes :-) serwer in Amsterdam had issue last month, no notice :-) I would not do 2 year, too much risk :-) 6 month is maximum for me :-)

your margin is my opportunity

I ran Contabo for 14 months. : 99.947% measured from my end, versus their claimed 99.97%. Status page green during two of my four alert firings. Alert fatigue is real with this provider.

The 40% discount is not free money. It is a loan to their cash flow with your uptime as collateral.

From what I recall, Contabo's ToS has something about being able to adjust prices unilaterally if they give you 30 days' notice. Prepayment does not lock your rate; it merely accelerates their revenue recognition.

  • 6-month term with quarterly review clause
  • Exit rights defined in writing
  • Credit card chargeback window preserved

I would not exceed 6 months without audited financials. RR

if it ain't broke, rust it

Lol nice 💀 6 months

Thank you all for the transparency 📊 I will go with 6 months and quarterly review no 2-year deal for me better safe than sorry

Two unreported windows would kill my trust. Quarterly review is the only sane path

I had status page lie green during a 4-hour outage once, never again

Following this thread closely. I was about to pull the trigger on the 24-month deal for a side project. Glad I checked here first.

This is the key sentence in the whole thread. I went back and checked Contabo's ToS after reading this. Section 3.2 is vague enough that they could redefine "service" and claim the new pricing applies to your prepaid period. Not saying they have. Saying they could.
