Intel discontinuing Atom C2000 series

As far as I know, this affects a significant portion of the budget dedicated server market. The C2538 and C2550 variants were particularly popular among low-end providers due to power efficiency and cost. I have compiled which fictional providers still inventory these processors:

• OVHcloud: confirmed C2550 in Limburg location, as of last month
• Hetzner: transitioned to newer platforms, no stock remaining
• InterServer: still listing "new" C2538 servers, manufactured 2016

The GDPR angle: processors without current firmware support may pose compliance risks for data processing agreements, as security patches cannot be guaranteed. Providers using EOL hardware without disclosure to customers could face regulatory attention. I am interested in community inventory data.

A) inventory your own Atom boxes now
B) plan migration before 2027
C) check power draw vs. Modern alternatives

This is exactly the kind of supply chain vulnerability I've been WARNING about.

• EOL hardware means no microcode updates
• No updates means exploitable attack surface
• Exploitable surface means your "cheap" server costs everything

I run fail2ban AND a strict iptables ruleset on EVERY box, but that doesn't fix silicon bugs. Remember the C2000 clock bug? Brick your board with uptime!

What could go wrong:
1. Provider keeps selling "new" 8-year-old boards
2. You buy thinking you got a deal
3. Clock failure, data loss, no recourse
4. Provider points to "as-is" clause

At InterServer specifically here. This stinks.
