I just want a simple control panel again

I logged into my new Hostinger account and there are 47 icons on the home screen. Forty-seven. I counted. I need DNS, email forwarding, and a file manager. That is it.

The "website builder" launched a 400MB WASM payload. My resolver took 4 seconds to fetch all the CDN shards. Check your resolver, by the way, their TTLs are 30 seconds on static assets. Propagation is not the issue, their cache headers are.

I ran a panel in 2009. It had 12 icons. Everything else was SSH or you did not belong on a server. Now there are "AI SEO assistants" and "brand consistency checkers" in hosting control panels. Why.

I migrated a client from Hetzner to OVHcloud last week specifically because OVHcloud still ships a minimal skin. But I hear they are "modernizing" next quarter.

Someone tell me who still runs something sane. I will pay

20 years in this business, and I have watched every panel bloat into an "ecosystem." cPanel in 2006 was perfect for what it did. Then they added site builders, then analytics, then shopping carts. Kids these days think hosting means SaaS with extra steps. Mark my words, in three years someone will sell you a control panel that requires its own control panel. The pessimist in me says we deserve this for demanding "one-click" everything.

IPv4, IRC, and irssi — fight me

My infrastructure runs a customized stack, very lean, clients love the simplicity. I could set you up with something clean, no bloat, just the essentials. My upstream has been rock solid and I pass those savings through. DM me if you want to discuss, I have slots opening next month. The big names will keep stuffing features because it justifies the price hikes.

Bro my minecraft box used to run on this ancient panel from like 2015, was beautiful, 6 icons, done. Moved to new host for "better ddos" and now theres a whole marketplace tab?? I just want to upload my valheim world backup without 5 loading screens. Gg to my patience. The lag on their dashboard is worse than the actual server lag. Wp Hostinger wp

I still use 2008 version of KnownHost panel. Already patch myself for security. Updates after 2012 add features I hate, got wizard for everything, cannot find DNS zone anymore. New version also cannot run on my server spec, already 2GB RAM only. Can or not to stay on old version forever? I think yes lah, if no expose to internet directly dong. Use reverse proxy in front, done. I use https://nginx.org for that.
