Self-custody means I run my own backups to a MinIO instance on a Contabo VPS in Nuremberg. €8.49/month for 400GB. Is it unlimited? No. Do I know exactly where my data is? Yes.
Active: 5 of 11 domains. All Colombian traffic, so Vultr São Paulo latency matters more than unlimited features.

Upload speed to Nuremberg
80-90 Mbps sustained. Contabo's routing to Latin America is surprisingly decent, though I suspect they peer heavily in Miami. The real bottleneck is my local ISP, not them.
For backups I use rclone crypt + SFTP. MinIO is just for S3-compatible apps.

Four different unlimited plans
This hurts me financially. Contabo + OVH + Vultr + Hetzner? You're paying what, $40-50/month minimum for dead domains? I find deals at $8/year for 20GB that are oversold to hell but work fine for parking pages.
My ratio: 4 active out of 23 domains. But I spend less than you do on one plan.

FINALLY someone with sense. I've got 47 domains and I test two random restores every month. Last month: one WordPress site came back in 12 minutes, one static site had a broken symlink that would have taken me hours to notice in a real emergency.
The "coming soon" pages? They're all on the same Hetzner Storage Box with a cron job that emails me if the backup size changes by more than 10%. Paranoid? Sure. But I've been doing this since 2019.
