I make a server up for client on cheap IP range from RackNerd. Emails bounce. Client angry. I check blocklists, IP on 7 lists. Regards.
How I lost a client because I picked the wrong ASN
ASN reputation matters more than price price~ check IP quality before you buy sir~ thank you sir~
IMO this is more common than people realize. YMMV but I always check ASN history before deploying anything client-facing, take it with a grain of salt. Some providers rotate dirty ranges quietly.
Same problem with GreenCloudVPS; IP listed on spamhaus; 3 tickets; no fix; moved to HostHatch; better so far
Locked. Take it to DMs.
I monitor ASN reputation alongside uptime now. Caught CloudCone with 23% of their /24 on blocklists last month. Status page said all operational. Alert fatigue is real when you have to watch everything yourself.
Pro tip: check these before any IP purchase.
- Search ASN on bgp.tools for history
- Query RIR delegation dates (fresh /24s are suspicious)
- Test mail delivery to gmail, outlook, yahoo
- Check RPKI validity on the prefix
Heads up: I moved a project to "premium" ASN from Leaseweb two weeks ago. Clean history, good reputation. Got listed on UCEPROTECT yesterday. The whole ASN, /19. Premium price, premium problem now.
UCEPROTECT lists the whole ASN
Which RIR delegated the /24, and when?
Premium ASN and still got UCEPROTECT listed? That's rough.
