I learning server very much. In Vietnam electricity is coal and hydro. What is REC? I not understand how pay more make less carbon.

Renewable Energy Certificate. You pay extra. HostHatch buys certificate saying some wind farm made power somewhere else. Your server still uses same coal power. Certificate does not change wire.

Whole thread missing the point. If RECs fund new wind construction, marginal impact. But HostHatch buys cheapest vintage RECs, probably 2022 Texas wind, already built. No additionality. Petra can confirm or deny.

We purchase current-year RECs from verified generators. I cannot disclose contract details. The program funds renewable infrastructure. We believe this is better than no program.

Of course not. Vintage and additionality are public registry data if you bothered. "Current-year" means nothing. 2024 REC from 2019 wind farm still counts as current-year. I've parsed enough NAR and ERCOT data to smell this.
