This thread sent me down a rabbit hole. Contabo's terms have something about "unmetered" for the 10Gbit port, and I think there's a fair use clause around 10TB. Their VDS plans say "unmetered" and mean it, but capped at 400Mbit. Different words, different products, same marketing.
You should be proud. Spreadsheets are how I make sense of hosting. I track cost per TB, actual throughput, support response time. Contabo wins on cost, loses on clarity. Hetzner wins on clarity, loses on cost for storage-heavy workloads.
Late to this but what about darkstat? Passive capture, web interface, no database setup. I ran it on a WRT54G back in the day. Still works on modern OpenWrt.
Or is everyone too cool for libpcap-based tools now?
Sorry if this was covered but does Contabo let you buy more bandwidth mid-month or do you have to upgrade the whole plan? I read the thread twice and couldn't find it.
Also what is vnstat? Is it free?
