Helsinki VPS for EU privacy compliance—worth the latency hit?

GDPR project needs EU data residency. Central EU providers oversold. Looking at Leaseweb Amsterdam: 35ms extra to Frankfurt, 28ms to Rotterdam.

  • Price: €35/mo for 2 vCPU / 4GB / 80GB NVMe
  • DPA: standard, no negotiation under €500/mo
  • Latency: 35ms FRA, 62ms LHR, 89ms MAD

To be honest, 30ms is noise for most apps. As said, compliance theater if you don't audit the actual logging. Anyone with production experience?

Thanks for considering EU privacy options! We'd be happy to discuss our Frankfurt zone if latency becomes a concern — our DPA includes audit rights at all tiers.

For Helsinki specifically, I'd check:
• Subprocessor list (some Finnish providers use Swedish logging)
• Data center tier certification
• Whether "EU-only" means EU staff or just EU servers
