Contabo has this 3-year prepay deal, basically €89 for 36 months, actually very cheap but I am worry what if they die before month 20? (´・ω・｀) I check their about page, company from 2019, actually not so old. But basically I read three threads here about provider death after prepay, very scary my friend say "just do it" but actually I am stress about decision (´・ω・｀) someone help me think through this? I want save money but also want sleep at night

Do the math! If they die at month 18 you paid $89 for 18 months = $4.94/mo! 1-year plan is probably $45 = $3.75/mo! You're paying more for risk! 💀

Xixixi I am buy 2-year prepay from RackNerd last year, they still alive lah. But I am lose sleep also very very many night. Now I am think: escrow mental model. You put money, you forget, if die then is like insurance claim. Not happy but ok. I am buy yesterday actually 1-year from Hetzner, sleep better xixixi

Contabo no, I check. If you prepay with crypto, no chargeback if they die. Risk asymmetry.
Escrow model is good. I run numbers: 3yr @ $89 vs 1yr @ $45 + two renewals at maybe $55 each = $155 worst case, $89 locked case. Break-even death month is ~22. You trust them past 22 months?

1GB for $2.47? You can get 2GB at GreenCloudVPS for $3.50. Specs-first, always. Prepay on 1GB is throwing money at bad hardware. My home lab has 512GB, I wouldnt run a container on 1GB. Impatient with budget thinking here.

GreenCloudVPS Tokyo location is $6/mo for 2GB last I checked. Their $3.50 is probably LA only, latency to Osaka would kill a Minecraft server. Contabo has Tokyo DC, that's worth something for ronwit.
