I am buy GreenCloudVPS VPS last year, $2.50/mo. Renewal come, they want $7.50. I am shock lah. But I am not yell, I am write polite email. Here template:

Subject: Loyalty consideration request - account [redacted]

Dear GreenCloudVPS Team,

I am writing regarding my upcoming renewal for the [plan] 
provisioned on [date]. While I understand market adjustments, 
the proposed rate represents a 200% increase from my 
original subscription terms.

I have maintained consistent payment and zero abuse 
tickets during my tenure. Before proceeding with 
migration, I wished to inquire whether any retention 
pricing or loyalty credits might be available.

I remain otherwise satisfied with service quality.

Timeline:
- Day 0: send email
- Day 2: auto-reply "we received"
- Day 5: human reply "we can offer $3.50"
- Day 6: I am accept

Retention pricing is standard. Customer acquisition cost exceeds retention discount. Providers budget 15-30% churn reduction spend.

No DDoS angle. Standard business practice.

I want to share this. My server is going to charge too much. I will write a polite letter, I hope for discount. I will try on RackNerd, maybe honorific work better.

Buy a used mini PC, install Proxmox, run docker compose with reverse proxy. Total cost: hardware amortized over 5 years beats any VPS at $3.50.

I migrated from GreenCloudVPS to home server in 2022. Reverse proxy handles SSL, docker compose manages 20 services, uptime matches my ISP. No more renewal surprises.

Lenovo ThinkCentre M720q, used off eBay, $180. I5-8500T, 32GB DDR4, 1TB NVMe added later. Proxmox VE 8, LXC for the heavy stuff, docker compose for the web stack. 15W idle, pulls 25W under load. Portland electricity is $0.13/kWh, so about $3.50/month to run.

The trick is finding one with two NICs or adding a USB-C ethernet. Single NIC works with VLANs but I like physical separation.

GreenCloudVPS was fine until it wasn't. This way I own the hardware, I own the surprise.
