Four providers, one month, same hardware

Fastest for what workload

Exactly. And "fastest for what failure mode." Hetzner's Falkenstein DC had a routing issue in June, traffic rerouted through Nuremberg. If your users are in DE, no problem. If they're in CA, extra 30ms. Same hardware, different pain.

It's always DNS. Always.

Running Proxmox on a Hetzner EX42 at home, $4 cloud VPS at Hetzner for offsite backup. The EX42 is mine, the cloud is theirs, both in Falkenstein. My backup hits the same upstream fiber as the VPS. If Hetzner has a bad day, both go down. "Diversification" that isn't.

my cloud. my rules. my 3AM alerts.

In Argentina the problem is the cepo. I pay Hetzner in euros with card, they charge me at the official rate, end up paying less than if it were blue dollar. InterServer in USD is stupid expensive for me. Identical hardware doesn't matter, what matters is which currency screws you less.

This. Miami banks charge me forex on EUR anyway. Hetzner ends up $4.40 effective. KnownHost at $3.50 is clean USD. InterServer $14/yr = $1.17/mo but I had to prepay a year. Ties up capital. Real cost isn't the sticker.

Also ties up recourse. InterServer's refund policy: 30 days on first invoice only. Annual prepay means month 2 you're locked in. Hetzner bills monthly, cancel any time. KnownHost prorates. The ToS differential is larger than the price differential.

Barcelona here. Hostinger has a DC in Paris. Latency BCN-Paris 25ms. Hetzner only has DE or FI for this price tier, 50ms+. For serving Spanish users, Hostinger wins on geography despite identical silicon. The €4 vs $13/yr is noise compared to RTT.

Helsinki is excellent for IPv6. Native /64, no NAT64, reverse DNS delegated. Hostinger Paris gave me a single address and charged for additional. For my use case, 50ms is acceptable cost for proper v6. Specifications matter.

Following. Currently on CloudCone LA, $15/yr. Same KXG60ZNV in my dmesg. Didn't know I was buying a label.

2019 all over again. CloudCone, RackNerd, GreenCloud, all same Supermicro, same fiber, same fiber cut. I keep a spreadsheet. 47 "different" providers, 9 actual DCs. The labels are infinite.

Can confirm the spreadsheet rabbit hole. I have 23 providers across 8 tabs, tracking actual DC location, upstream ASN, NVMe model, whether they bill in USD or EUR or CAD. The "same hardware" revelation saves me one column. Now I track kernel version instead.
