Actually in Wrocław I pay 1.2 zł/kWh so about 30c actually very expensive now after all the energy crisis actually my E3-1230v2 at home I already shut down last year actually the power bill was too painful actually

At work is different, boss pays actually but for home serwer I have N100 from AliExpress also actually Topton but single nvme version actually 40 euro used from olx.pl actually very good deal I think

Sweden here, around 35c/kWh if you have a bad contract. I got lucky with a fixed 18c until 2025. Running a HP MicroServer Gen10 Plus with E-2224, not exactly efficient but at least it's not DDR3 era. The N100 stuff is tempting but I need iLO/IDRAC for remote screwups.

Those are excellent. Corporate off-lease from eBay.de, 80-120 euro. I have three in Munich running Proxmox clusters. 35W idle measured, vPro for AMT remote. The N100 is cheaper per year but if you need ECC or more than 32GB RAM the Tiny line is the sweet spot. I run one with 64GB and a SATA SSD for ZFS cache.

This is the way. My E3 at home died in 2021, capacitor on the Supermicro board. Replaced with a Dell T30 from olx, Xeon E3-1225v5, DDR4. Still idle 45W though. Thinking about N100 for pihole and wireguard only, keep the T30 for TrueNAS with the spinners.

Topton N100 from AliExpress

Ordered. 2x nvme, 16GB DDR5 soldered unfortunately but 16GB is fine for backups and light VMs. $189 with shipping. Beats trying to find a mini-ITX board with 2x m.2 and a PCIe slot I'll never use.

seedbox, NAS, tape, and three offsite

Belgium here, 45c/kWh on variable. I gave up on home servers entirely, everything is at Hetzner now. Their CPX11 is €4.51/month, I run 4 of them for redundancy. No noise, no heat, no capacitor death at 3am. The N100 math only works if your power is reasonable.

Same situation in Mumbai, power is 12c but reliability is the problem. 4-hour outages twice a week minimum. I run a N100 on a small UPS for local DNS and monitoring, everything else is at HostHatch Singapore. The latency is 45ms, acceptable.

Following this thread closely. I still have an E3-1230v3 at Online.net (now Scaleway) that I got in 2016 for €15/month. They keep renewing it at the same price. 32GB, 2x2TB, unmetered 1Gbps. I keep thinking I'll migrate but the price is impossible to beat.

Scaleway grandfathered pricing is legendary. I had a Dedibox SC 2016 until 2022, €8.99 for Atom C2750. They finally forced migration to a newer plan. Enjoy it while it lasts, they are cleaning house slowly.

Can someone explain why the N100 boards all have Realtek NICs except the Topton? Every other AliExpress special I looked at was RTL8111H or worse. Is Intel i226 worth the $30 premium?
