Finally. Last cPanel account migrated to DirectAdmin. 47 domains, 3 years, done.
To be honest the anxiety was worse than the work. As said before: cPanel's backup restore is forgiving, DA is not. I tracked everything in a spreadsheet.
What I actually missed during migrations:
- AutoSSL behavior: cPanel retries daily silently, DA emails you every failure
- Addon domain document roots: cPanel puts them in /public_html/sub, DA uses /domains/sub.domain.com
- PHP-FPM pool limits: default DA template is 5 children, cPanel auto-scales
- MySQL remote access: cPanel has "Remote MySQL" icon, DA needs manual firewall
Your mileage varies. But test your restores. Always.
