I am launching a photography portfolio with embedded video reels, roughly 50MB per project page. Back when I started, 10GB was a fortune. I ran the numbers: 200 page loads of my heaviest page and I am done. But this is 2025, and hosts still sell these plans. I am stress-testing Contabo's cheapest tier for a review piece. If they throttle or bill silently, I want to know before recommending them. Has anyone here actually hit the wall on a so-called unlimited host? I need real data, not marketing.
Mark my words, the overage invoice will arrive with creative math.

Why pay for bandwidth anxiety when you can self-host it? A $5 HostHatch instance, docker compose with nginx reverse proxy, and Cloudflare in front. I serve 4K drone footage to maybe thirty visitors monthly for pocket change. The control is worth it. Kids these days rent what they could own.

Silent as a grave. I have been in this game since before Linode existed, and "unmetered" has always meant "we will bill you when we feel like it." From memory, Contabo's terms have some fair use clause that basically means they know it when they see it.
My test is running nginx access logs to S3. I will know by Tuesday if they shape traffic or just send a polite German invoice.

You use S3 for log? Is expensive no? I use syslog to my OVHcloud VPS in Gravelines, 2 euro backup instance. Same result, zero surprise invoice.
For Contabo I hear the St. Louis location is good for US, but Nuremberg to US is slow for video. You test which DC?
